DU PARENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Background
The Daarul Uloom Parents Assistance Program was created as a means of providing parental support to all the activities necessary to enrich the school experience for our students. This program continues to develop and is in need of active DU parents who are eager to support their children’s learning environment. Many programs the students have come to depend on (field trips, special events, Eid Programs, etc.) simply cannot continue without dependable parent support. Additionally, we want parents to be actively involved in the school as effective partners in our development and success.
Assistance Process
Each DU family must complete a total of 20 assistance hours; 10 of which need to be completed by December 19th (1st assistance period) and the other 10 by May 28st (2nd assistance period). Your hours can be completed by working directly with your child’s teachers, through the PTO, board committees, school projects, etc.
- Pick-up your Parent Assistance Log card from the reception desk for the first assisting experience.
- Fill out and wear the DU Visitor Pass.
- Get your Parent Assistance Log signed by the person you assisted; do not return the log to the office until you have completed the 1st set of 10 hours.
- It is your responsibility to keep your log with you until the end of each assistance period.
- Be sure to hand in your log to the office by December 19th for tabulation of the 1st assistance period, and by May 28th for the 2nd assistance period.
- Incomplete logs and logs turned in late will not be tabulated.
Volunteer Fees
If you do not complete your Parent Assistance hours, you will be charged a fee of $200. Assistance fees will be cancelled for those who meet the required volunteer hours. For administrative ease, the 10 hours is an all-or-nothing requirement; the full 10 hours must be met and submitted by the end of each volunteering period.
Guidelines
- Please schedule with the school/teacher ahead of time before you come to assist. We want to ensure that we have a project ready for you when you come in and cannot accommodate “walk-ins”.
- A Parent Assistance bulletin board is located outside the office with scheduled events for which parents are needed. Please check the bulletin board frequently.
- Parent Assistance opportunities are also posted in the DU newsletter.
- Hours can be completed by older siblings at the high school level, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
- Please be sure to get your Parent Assistance Hour Log signed before you leave DU on the day of the experience.
- If you have completed more than the mandatory hours, please record your extra hours on a separate sheet. We’d like to document the needs and types of projects that the parents have been involved in.
- PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUNGER SIBLINGS SO AS TO NOT DISTRUBT THE LEARNING IN THE BUILDING. TRY TO MAKE BABYSITTING ARRANGEMENTS WITH OTHER PARENTS.
Please remember that your participation is an important part of your child’s development. Although you can satisfy your 20 hours by paying the Parent Assistance fees, we prefer to see all of our parents involved in the school community.
