High School Tests/Exams

Freshman Year

  • Administration is planning on starting an entrance exam policy/ we currently are looking at different options. Our plan is that this will also serve as a collection data tool to see the growth of our student’s learning.

  • Sophomore Year

  • We encourage students to take the PSAT exam. Even though this one is for a “practice”, it gives students experience with the standardized test.
  • Accuplacer- Those seeking dual credit courses and meet the requirement may be offered to take the placement exam offered by ICC.

  • Junior Year

  • Accuplacer- Those seeking dual credit courses and meet the requirement may be offered to take the placement exam offered by IC
  • Students in the Fall (usually October) will be taking the PSAT. This test is scheduled to give students the opportunity for eligibility for the Merit Scholarship award. This is the only time it is scheduled to be taken and count towards the award. Students must then follow up with the SAT in March
  • In March, all juniors will take the SAT with others across the nation. This will serve as a data point as well for our growth of a school. As of right now, the SAT will be scheduled at the ICC campus testing facility.
**Disclaimer: The full SAT is offered many times a year. Students can take it up until October of their Senior year. It is recommended not to take it more than 4 times total though. There are subject SATs that can be taken but colleges tend to focus on the broad skills one.
  • ACT is another standardized test that is available for students in their Junior and Senior year. It is another one that colleges can look at for acceptance. It is offered up to 7 times a year. Students can not take it more than 12 times. It is acceptable though to take it 2 to 3 times.

  • Senior year

  • Administration is planning on starting an exit exam policy for data collection. It may be the SAT or ACT. We are still deciding this.

  • Other tests that you may hear about:

    AP Placement

  • These tests are offered in the Spring/May for specific courses. We do offer some of the curriculum but it does require a student to do more that just take the course. There are incidents depending on where you plan to go to college that a particular score on the test itself could gain college credit. There is no guarantee

  • CLEP

  • These tests are offered at different times of year. These are tests students independently study a course material. There are incidents depending on where you plan to go to college that a particular score on the test itself could gain college credit. There is no guarantee.

  • GED

  • This is a course that if a student drops out of a high school, they can be eligible to take the exam to receive a certification that they accomplished the content needed to finish high school. ( high school equivalency diploma )
